Bhubaneswar: Decrying the poor law and order in Puri town and murder of a lawyer and hotelier in the pilgrim city on Sunday night, a group of lawyers and journalists on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Puri Collector-cum-District Magistrate demanding immediate transfer of district SP Sarthak Sarangi from the district.
“In last eight months seven-eight murders have been executed in the pilgrim city. The SP has failed to maintain law and order in the district. Since his joining, criminal elements have become proactive,” alleged one of the agitating lawyers.
Demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the murder of Chandan Behera, proprietor of Sai Kutir Lodge near Puri district court, the agitators threatened to intensify the protest if the Government fails to shift the “inefficient” SP.
“More than 12 hours have been passed into the murder. Police is still clueless. Interestingly, Sea Beach police station is located hardly at a distance of 30m from the spot where the crime took place. It exposes the police administration’s efficiency and softness towards the criminal elements,” said an agitating journalist.
