Bhubaneswar: In a major relief to Bittihotra Mohanty, who was arrested for allegedly raping a German woman in 2006, the Rajasthan High Court (HC) quashed the parole violation case registered against him paving the way for his release from the jail.

Bittihotra’s counsel Sarthak Nayak said his client would be released on July 6.

Though the Supreme Court on March 31 granted conditional bail to Bittihotra alias Bitti, the son former Director General (Home guards and Fire Services) Bidya Bhusan Mahanty, in case a where he was convicted and sentenced to seven years of imprisonment in April 2006 for allegedly raping the German woman in Rajasthan's Alwar district, but he was unable to come out of the jail as a parole violation case was pending against him.

Notably, during his jail term, he was allowed a 15-day parole in November 2006 to meet his ailing mother in Cuttack. But the youth jumped the parole and absconded and almost seven years after the incident in March 2013, he was arrested from Kerala where he was living as Raghav Ranjan and working with a bank as a Probationary Officer. Since 2013, Bittihotra has been cooling his heels at Jaipur Central Jail in Rajasthan.
