Bhubaneswar: Alarmed by the BJP’s stunning show in the February panchayat election in the State, particularly in Mayurbhanj district, the ruling BJD today roped in JMM leader and former SCB Medical College Students’ Union president Debasish Marandi to strengthen the party in the tribal dominated district.

Marandi joined the regional party in the presence of party president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the latter’s residence. The development came a day after the CM made an unscheduled visit to Baripada, the headquarters of the district to take stock of the construction progress of Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital.

Welcoming the Marandi, Patnaik said his joining will certainly strengthen the party in Mayurbhanj district.

Notably, opposition BJP had formed the district council in Mayurbhanj district in the February panchayat election.
