Bhubaneswar: Surprise inspections of petrol pumps to detect adulteration continued in the State. Today, Weight and Measures Wing officials of the Civil Supplies Department conducted raids on petrol pumps across the Kendrapara town. The inspections came following several complaints lodged of mixing kerosene and other solvents in petrol and also less disbursement of oil than the money paid for.

Notably, following the irregularities found in fuel dispensing machines in Uttar Pradesh, the State Civil Supplies Department on May 9, conducted simultaneous raids on petrol filling stations at various places in Bhubaneswar.

At least three petrol pumps were slapped with fines.

Last month, it had been reported that certain petrol pumps in Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh, used electronic chips to take out a certain amount of petrol every time they filled the vehicle of a customer. It was found that for every litre, the petrol pumps took away 50 ml of the fuel.

However, no UP-like electronic chips are found in the filling machines in the State.
