Bhubaneswar: With the WannaCry ransomware virus spreading its tentacles alarmingly in the State, the State Government today decided to sensitise internet users about the cyber virus, its prevention and remedial measures through media.
Decision to this effect was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Information and Technology Minister Chandra Sarathi Behera. Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, Crime Branch Special DG Bijay Kumar Sharma, experts of OCCAC, NIC and professors of IIIT-Bhubaneswar attended the meeting.
“We have decided to sensitise people about the WannaCry ransomware virus, its prevention, and dos and don’ts in print and electronic media,” the Minister told reporters after the meeting.
Though the Cyber Cell of the State Crime Branch and IT Department has come out with list of dos and don'ts and advisory, the WannaCry is spreading widely in the State.
“We observe that the virus is attacking database through e-mail. We appeal to the internet users to not open unknown main and attachments,” said Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, adding that the State Government is taking requisite measures to deal with the havoc.
