Bhubaneswar: An alleged incident of doctors taking out a kidney of a poor patient while conducting operation for his piles has stunned denizens of Cuttack now.
The matter came to the fore when the patient, Rajkumar Biswal of Potapokhari, lodged an FIR in this regard and sought action against the concerned doctors.
According to Biswal, a driver, he had been suffering from piles for long. As the disease became more painful, he went to a private hospital at Mahanadi Vihar in Cuttack where doctors advised them for an operation.
Accordingly, he underwent an operation in the hospital and was discharged after 10 days of stay. He had paid Rs 60,000 for treatment.
However, after a month he felt severe pain in his abdomen. He went to the hospital and consulted with the same doctors. The doctors said he was getting pain for the operation and that will be lessened gradually.
As he continued to feel more pain, he consulted with other doctors, who suspected that one of his two kidneys has been removed. They also questioned why his belly was cut six-inch long when he had gone for operation for piles only.
With no other option left, Rajkumar filed an FIR against the hospital authorities and doctors who operated upon him. Police have started investigation.
Though taking medicines worth Rs 3,000 a month, poor Rajkumar is still getting severe pain in his abdomen.
