Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today said that decision regarding BJD’s support to National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) President candidate Ramnath Kovind would be taken following discussions with senior party leaders.
“Decisions regarding support to NDA president candidate will be taken following discussions with senior party leaders,” said the BJD president here.
In the run-up to the 15th Presidential election scheduled to be held on July 17, the BJP today announced prominent dalit leader and Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind as their Presidential candidate after calling for a Parliamentary board meeting today.
Following the announcement of Kovind’s name as the NDA's candidate for the post of President by BJP national president Amit Shah reactions began to pour in from political parties.
Meanwhile, senior BJP leader and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dhamrnedra Pradhan hoped that BJD would extend support to Kovind’s candidature.
The BJD is going to play a significant role in the election as it has 28 MPs, including 20 Lok Sabha and eight in Rajya Sabha members besides enjoying support of another Independent Rajya Sabha MP. Besides, the party has 117 MLAs in the 147-member Odisha State Legislative Assembly.
