Bhubaneswar: A day after tension prevailed in Kendrapara over an objectionable social media post, Central Range IG Soumendra Priyadarshi on Thursday rushed to Kendrapara to take stock of the situation in the communal sensitive town.

On Wednesday, the State Government suspended the internet services in the town for 48 hours to prevent possible escalation of tension. Tension prevailed in the district after a youth in Fakirbad area shared an objectionable video against a certain community posted in a facebook page.

Some residents petitioned the Collector alleging that the particular social media post shared by a local man hurt their sentiment and demanded immediate arrest of the youth.

In a bid to prevent Bhadrak like situation, the Home Department acting on the suggestion of Kendrapara district Collector Muralidhar Mallick disconnected the net connectivity from the urban areas from 3 pm on Wednesday for 48 hours.

Meanwhile, the district administration asked the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch to investigate the content and the origin of its posting and take necessary action.
