Bhubaneswar: Putting all speculations to rest, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would meet his West Bengal counterpart Mamata Banerjee at Naveen Niwas at 4 pm today.
Speculation has seen ripe since the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) chairperson Mamata Banerjee decided to visit Odisha on a three-day tour starting from Tuesday to meet ailing party MP Sudip Bandyopadhayay, who has been admitted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar following his arrest by the CBI in the Rose Valley chit fund scam.
Banerjee on the second day her three-day tour on Wednesday told reporters in Puri that she had sought time from Patnaik to meet him.
Banerjee, a known critic of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre, had met the BJD supremo on April 10 at the Parliament.
The proposed meeting assume significance in view of the saffron surge in the country and the upcoming presidential elections. Further, leaders from both the BJD and the TMC are allegedly involved in the chit-fund scam being probed by the CBI and many leaders of both the parties have already in jail in this connection.
The possible meeting between two heavyweights also assume significance at a time when there is a call for an alternative alliance of secular forces to counter the BJP in 2019.
