Intense heat sweeps Odisha, Titilagarh records 46.5 °C

Bhubaneswar: Life was thrown out of gear in the State as four places recorded above 45 degree Celsius and 12 places witnessed above 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday. Titlagarh recorded the highest day temperature at 46.5 degree Celsius followed by 46.4 degree Celsius in Bolangir. On Monday, Bolangir recorded 46.2 degree Celsius on Monday, the highest temperature at any place this season.

Apart from Titilagarh and Bolangir, two other places recorded above 45 degree Celsius. These urban centres are Jharsuguda (45.5) and Malkangiri (45.2). While Sambalpur recorded 44.9 degree Celsius temperature rose to settle at 44.8 degree Celsius in Sonepur followed by Hirakud (44.6), Bhawanipatna (44.5), Angul (44.1), Phulabani (42.6), Sundargarh (42) and Talcher (42). However, the State capital Bhubaneswar which recorded 40.2 degree Celsius witnessed one degree fall in the day temperature today.

 Meanwhile, the IMD has issued an orange alert, a warning for severe heat wave in the State for next 24 hours.
