Bhubaneswar: Amid the prevailing scorching heat conditions weathermen are predicting pre-monsoon showers in most parts of the State from June 8 and arrival of southwest monsoon on Odisha coast by second week of June.
The weathermen further predicted heavy rainfall on June 9 and 10 across the State while the day temperature will rise up to 45-46 degree Celsius in most parts of the State. The local MeT centre too issued heatwave alert for 12 places.
“Heatwave is likely to occur at one or two places over Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Khurda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh, Bhadrak, Cuttack. Rain and thunder-shower is likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Kendrapara, Gajpati, Ganjam and Rayagada,” IMD's latest bulletin said.
“Maximum temperatures appreciably rose over north Interior Odisha and observed no large change over rest Odisha. They were above normal over north Interior Odisha and normal over rest Odisha. The highest maximum temperature of 44 degree Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda and the lowest minimum temperature of 21 degree Celsius was recorded at Sundargarh,” added the bulletin issued by the IMD at 1.30 pm.
