Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain accompanied by lightning and hailstones lashed Bhubaneswar and many parts of the State on Sunday. The rains brought some relief to people suffering because of sweltering heatwave conditions from last few weeks.
On Sunday itself, heatwave condition was prevailed in many parts of Odisha, particularly in western parts of the State with Bolangir recording the highest day temperature of 44 degrees Celsius on Sunday. At least ten cities recorded above 40 degree Celsius.
Bolangir was followed by Titilagarh (43.6), Bhawanipatna (43), Malkangiri (42.6), Sambalpur (40.1), Subarnpur (40.8), Hirakud 40.5, Phulbani (40.2) Sundargarh and Talcher 40.
In many parts, the rain and hailstones has damaged harvested crops and standing crops. In many capital city streets, waterlogging was experienced for hours.
