Odisha turns into blast furnace; five towns above 45 °C, B'gir sizzles at 46.2°C

Bhubaneswar: Severe heat wave conditions continued to prevail in most parts of the State as temperature soared to 46.2 degree Celsius in Bolangir in the western region while 15 other towns, including in coastal parts of Odisha witnessed day temperature above 40 degree Celsius. Five places recorded above 45 degree Celsius.

Of the total 30 districts, the day temperature was recorded above 40 degree Celsius in 16 district bringing the normal life to a grinding halt.

According to local Meteorological Centre communiqué, while Bolangir was the hottest place at 46.2 degree Celsius, Jharsuguda recorded 46 degree Celsius followed by Hirakud (45.8), Sambalpur (45.7), Titilagarh (45.5), Sonepur (45), Angul (44.7), Bhawanipatna (44.2), Malkangiri (43.2), Sundargarh (43), Phulabani (42.2), Talcher (41.8), Keonjhar (40.8), Bhubaneswar (40.2), Chandbali (41) and Cuttack (40).

The statement further warns the severe heatwave condition will continue till May 22 in some parts of the State.
