In a small respite for the denizens, mercury dropped across the coastal districts of Odisha today with partly cloudy skies. But on the other hand the western parts of the State turned into a boiling pot with around nine cities recording temperature above 40 degree Celsius.
There was no relief from the heatwave conditions as the sweltering heat intensified in most parts of the State on Friday with Bolangir becoming the hottest place in at 44.5 degree Celsius. Apart from Bolangir, 12 places recorded above 40 degree Celsius today.
Day temperatures soared in western Odisha on Wednesday a day after the State witnessed relatively lower temperatures on Tuesday. While as many as seven places recorded above 40 degree Celsius, the mercury whizzed past 40 degree Celsius in at least 11 places today.
The maximum temperature in the State declined marginally on Tuesday, bringing some relief from the scorching heatwave condition. After rising for last few days, the maximum temperature dropped by a few notches with only seven places recording above 40 degree Celsius.
Continuing with the blistering heat making life cripple in the State, more than 15 cities registered temperature above 40 degree Celsius today. Importantly, Bolangir ruled at the top for yet another day today with a mercury level at 44.3 degree Celsius.
There was no respite from the prevailing severe heatwave conditions for the people of the State with the day temperature whizzing past 40 degree Celsius in 14 places in the State on Saturday.
While summer woes continues in the State with rising mercury level each next day, the prediction of local meteorological centre today has left the denizens panic-stricken.
It seems the summer woe in the State is far for receding so early in the State with the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre predicting hotter days ahead today. Predicting continuation of heat wave situation in most parts of the interior and western Odisha, the Centre forecasted Norewester in the State Capital Bhubaneswar in next 24 hours.
Giving no respite to denizens from blistering heat wave in the State, around 12 cities recorded mercury level above 40d Celsius mark today. While the western Odisha turned to be a virtual boiling pot during the day today, the local MeT department Centre predicted norwester in the capital city Bhubaneswar within 24 hours.
Mercury continued to soar on Friday in major parts of the State with Angul scorching at 44.7 degree Celsius while four towns recorded above 40 mark.
